Casualties of War…
Ravaged cities, destroyed families, thousands orphaned, millions displaced, a crumbling economy, families praying frantically for their loved ones to return safely from the frontline, the frontline soldiers doing their job earnestly but dreading and despairing it at the same time. Either kill or get killed.
All this while a million other self proclaimed nationalists with their bigoted views take sides while watching the news on national TV and spew hatred on social media believing that their overt display of pseudo-patriotism will somehow win the day in their favor. I know spreading awareness is important and social media is an excellent tool for that but our keyboard warriors have polarized the society into thinking that their way is the only way, not leaving room for any other school of thought.
If you care to notice, whenever there is a national or international crises, the amount of research that goes into it is pretty much zero as far as the general public is concerned. They are swayed quickly by news media and inflammatory social media posts from vested sources. When such bigoted ideas spread like wild fire reaching millions of others who are awaiting confirmation of their own biases, the problem is further reinforced.
There are no winners in a war. All parties involved lose unless there are third parties benefiting directly or indirectly. Have you ever realized that a war is sometimes fought much before the actual war by people you know nothing about and will probably never hear about. So, when a majority opinion forms somewhere of how to be more pro-active or a debate about whether a nuclear war would turn the tides in their favor even if it meant wiping off half of humanity, it is plain juvenile. You see only roaches survive nuclear attacks not you and me. We barely survive a recession or a setback at work.
Ever wondered what happens to the people who do not make it to the statistics? Like the POW’s, the clandestine operatives. How do they get treated there? Their scars probably lasting a lifetime to a degree you cannot even begin to comprehend. Also ever wondered how long does it take for them to heal if at all they can? How they have to re-live their trauma everyday and fight their demons in an effort to get to any semblance of normalcy. Perhaps they have always lived their life in extremes and do not know what normal is.
You see, there are always more casualties in a war than what meets the eye.
