It is just about the correct English usage of the term in my case. Even when we talk about concepts like evolution, we refer to humans as, for eg : 'When man evolved'. Also, in my article I was speaking about a negative experience with a certain 'man'. but when I did think of it, there are women who behave that way too and hence had to mention that I was in that context using the term for a human.

But, I get your point. We have in society today conferred a gender to specific phrases.
