Much a do about nothing…
The truth about opinions is that opinions are not the truth.
In the age of social media and a population of about 8 billion, the one thing differentiating democracy from fascism would be the freedom to have an opinion. Whether that is a foot in the mouth prejudiced one or one dished out after careful research is a matter of contention.
The preacher matters as much as what is being preached. When opinions come out of zero research, it is both ignorant and arrogant. One could be far left or far right or far from making any sense, bashing people on social media garners likes from the like minded and hate from others and that has become the source of bread and butter for many. For eg : No one in their right mind would take Mr Andrew Tate seriously. The man tries very hard to stay relevant with outrageously distasteful comments and as expected his drama attracts eyeballs. (Putting this mildly. I could have used other idioms, but have chosen not to go the Tate way.)
Take the recent Kangana Ranaut slap gate controversy. It was just an other opinion from a celebrity affiliated to a certain political wing and it should have been taken as such. However, the CISF personnel responsible for both the safety and security of the common masses in the airport had her emotions get the better of her. You need an EQ test before you place people on important duties along with physical fitness and whatever it is that you test for.
Once you don the uniform, you have a responsibility to your country first( which obviously includes it’s citizens) followed by your force and only after that, your own self. If you do not understand this, you have no business being in uniform. But, I guess some 20 year old's don’t know any better. Some grow wiser only with age and some never do. (refer to the Tate para)
Coming to the issue in question. I know it is for real that the Medical Industrial complex exists, more so in the West. Big Pharma does push for certain drugs to be used in the market and there are doctors who comply. Some of those drugs work well for the patients while some others work only well for the pockets of the pharmaceuticals pushing them. However, the experts on these matters are the doctors who have spent years honing their craft and choose to call out the corruption in the system. I already made my opinions clear in my post- ‘The patho of pathies’
I can also understand that there are patients who have suffered at the hands of the medical establishment and are hence paranoid about it. However, I have my skepticism when a bunch of people indulge in doctor bashing for the heck of it. I recently read a post where some internet troll happened to label doctors as ‘hired help’ and as per them, the ones donning a white coat are no better than plumbers and other handymen.
No offense to plumbers and handymen. I have immense gratitude for any work someone can do that I cannot. But, sure it is the same thing. Considering your handymen train for a few months as against your doctors who spend decades honing their craft. If it is all the same, next time you want a baby delivered, you can summon your plumber and when you need that heart surgery, get hold of a good mechanic.
The point is, when a person is good at what they do(in any field and specially so in some with immense complexity), it has come from decades of hard work. When you were partying and living it up in your prime, they spent their time hunched over books. When you were celebrating your Thanksgiving, Christmas, Diwali and New year, they were prepping for their year end exams. When you come home and call it a day, there are doctors taking calls all night. I know how that messes with ones circadian rhythm. So forgive me if I don’t appreciate your very Tate like opinion. Saving your arrogant sorry arse every time is not an obligation.
There are a few black sheep in every profession and I get that. For eg: My cousin’s OBGYn didn’t show up during her delivery. (A plumber would have). They deserve the backlash. Not every other person who shows up with the right intention.
Take the whole controversy with respect to masking and maintaining social distance during Covid. Supposedly as per Western data, social distancing led to increased rates of depression and suicide. Sorry to give you a reality check; you were in all probability depressed and suicidal to begin with. In a pandemic certain decisions need to be taken for the greater good and you not being able to celebrate your grandma’s 90th birthday and socialize doesn’t feature as life threatening( to others). Masking was uncomfortable and you didn’t look your part. Big deal! Suck it up. We had to wear claustrophobic PPE’s because you didn’t want to mask up.
As someone who was on the field during Covid, I know how we lost people everyday. If you are whining about how people died alone in their hospital beds, it was done so that you wouldn’t end up being added to the statistics. Nobody knew for sure how to deal with the pandemic. The authorities and the health workers did their best putting their own lives on the line.
As far as vaccinations are concerned, there is plenty to be addressed.
Did vaccination help contain Covid? Certainly yes!
Did some Big pharma screw up? Yes again! (No prizes for guessing which one.)
Did some other Pharmaceuticals get it right and save lives? Yes!
Was the Virus a lab leak? In all probability yes!
Was there an alternative to vaccination and masking and social distancing? No! (I have done my research).
If you didn’t want to be vaccinated, didn’t want to mask up and didn’t want to social distance, I suppose I can logically deduce that you wanted to kick your bucket. And that is fine. Your life, your choice. But, you would have put the life of others at risk who were dutifully following pandemic protocol and that doesn’t make it fine.
I know lives were lost to the side effects of vaccination. However, even many more were lost to Covid. We all risked the side effects and took the jab. In fact Health care workers were the first to take it even before senior citizens got jabbed. So, you don’t get to blame them. The solution isn’t doing away with vaccination, it is demanding safer vaccines. Yes, they do exist. And if you exercise your choice to refuse, you owe it to your community to take other preventative measures. It is not alright to go around being an ambulating biohazard.
It is great to have an opinion. However, debating and complaining endlessly without an alternate actionable solution is a waste of an opinion. I see it simply as much a do about nothing. It is akin to another Tate opinion and I wouldn’t give it the time of my day.
