My Crimson travels…
As a little kid during our occasional vacations as a family, dad made it a point to catch a glimpse of the rising or setting sun. He went an extra mile in fact to watch the crimson rays shimmer over the waters of the boundless ocean or peek through the clouds from over the mountain tops.
It was a ritual he followed everywhere he went. Also, he made sure we woke up during the wee hours of the morning and accompanied him for the visual marvel. As kids we found it cumbersome and annoying. It was vacation time for heaven’s sake and we yearned for those extra hours of shut eye.
It didn’t matter to him if it was biting cold, he would shove us all to the beach at 4 am. We teased him about it. Like a set routine every morning a peek of the crimson rays.
Over the years we travelled a little more across the length and breath of the country. Being the family photographer, taking the reigns from dad, the onus fell on me to imprint those memories digitally.
It later turned into a habit of sorts. No matter where we went , I made sure to capture the sun. The only difference being I seldom capture sunrises. Dad may still go for a morning stroll to soak in his favorite hours of the day. I capture sunsets instead. They are just as beautiful and I am not required to lose sleep over it or brave the chilly winds.
Above posted are a few of the sunsets I captured. Some on my camera and some others over a very basic phone. The picture quality may not be great but my memories sure are.
From watching a tribe of monkeys cross the Sundarbans and the birds flying back to their roost to the white sands of Andaman. Overlooking the Madikeri Valley to the sunset in Goa. From atop the youth hostel in Mizoram to a random shot in the midst of a national highway in Rajasthan, from the sandy beaches of Orissa to the ocean from the helipad of a ship in Lakshadweep,
Is my country in crimson…
