Oh wow! If someone taught me screenwriting like they do in schools, I would be totally lost. The point of a mentor is to make the difficult easy not complicate it more. I think you can apply this learning across all fields. When one is forced to follow a pattern without questioning or thinking it through, the basic understanding is compromised. It ends up being a struggle learning complex concepts that you can't seem to wrap your head around. It takes time to figure out how to best learn on your own if you don't have people to guide you.
