See you did it....I wasn't that bad, was it? I think people usually buy food for others, may part with small amounts of money. However buying something unnecessary like a fashion accessory(here a hat) or parting with something costly is rare.

And sometimes people look at the person and just play along I guess :)

I met a little urchin on a trip once who asked for my lipstick and I gave it to her, then some money and then she asked for my earing and I had to refuse :D
