This is an interesting read Riikka. I don't know in what theory my philosophy fits in, but I do not believe in totally avoiding the stimulus either, rather giving small doses or fixed doses of it. As in dieting, which you said is difficult for more people to practice self control. If you have a calorie tracker, you can eat small amounts of whatever you like in a more or less balanced fashion as long as you don't exceed the count than strictly restricting food stuffs. If you like watching TV maybe keep one hour a day for that. If you have to read instead of forcing yourself to turn into an avid reader, keep one hour a day for reading. I think small steps make a more lasting change. Just my experience.
