To the ones that outlived…
Here now and not there next.
I wonder how
It came knocking in pretext.
A sudden call
An ailment long
Both the young and the old,
The feeble and the bold,
It approached the same.
It spared no one..
Memories clawed at the heartstrings
Of the souls left behind
As they watched little kids mourn
And the young shook awaken
To their stay sojourn.
They left without warning
I never wept.
Death never mattered
to the ones treading the journey.
Their hour had arrived,
They would grow to accept.
The turmoil of the living though
Could not be soothed awhile.
For many a day
They could not apprehend why
They had to muster the valor
For an untimely goodbye.
All the love and care
Had ended in a moments time
It had left behind in it’s wake
A heart so bare
It could be tilled by none
Even the ones who ardently tried.
They say, grief when shared is halved
and happiness doubled.
The memory of the departed however
Only stoked the wounds still raw
Until it sobbed a tempest river
Bled again and bubbled.
As the days went on
The tempest calmed.
Life has to move on, they said
For the ones that remain,
Still love you with all they got
And the ones departed await
Until the time you meet again.
